BNL and HIFIS Training

The Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia (AHANS) offers training for all service providers on the process for the Halifax Regional Municipality By-Name List (BNL) referral. As the HIFIS (Homeless Individuals and Families Information System) Database Managing Agency for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, AHANS facilitates training for all HIFIS users in both provinces.

HRM By-Name List Training

The By-Name List (BNL) is a comprehensive list of individuals in our community who are experiencing homelessness and who have engaged with the homelessness serving sector. BNL Referral Training will provide you with an understanding of coordinated access and BNL processes in Halifax Regional Municipality, an overview of the referral form, and an opportunity to ask questions.

To note, though coordinated access processes are in place in several communities in Nova Scotia, AHANS only provides training for the coordinated access/BNL processes in Halifax Regional Municipality. If your service provider is located outside of HRM, please connect with your local coordinated access system leader.

Sessions take place every second Friday 9:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Please RSVP advising on which session date you would like to attend and a Zoom link will be provided via email.

HIFIS Training

This training is provided online and on demand in a module format so it can be completed at your convenience. See link below for a document that outlines the training options that are currently available. Once decided, please complete the HIFIS Support and Training Request Form here and the selected training session link will be provided via email.

Please reach out to hifis@ahans.ca if you have any questions about HIFIS, the training process or if you have any technical issues or concerns.
